Using Blitz! with other books |
The Blitz! programme uses books in a highly structured and sequenced way. The order that these are read should not be changed, nor rushed. However, children with reading difficulties need much exposure, not less, to good literature in order to build on their developing interest and to sustain motivation. Many books found in the school library and classrooms can be used for this purpose. The child does not have to be able to read the book independently, but can be responsible for reading the 'punch line' or repeated phrase. Encouraging prediction and meaning through books can help enormously. In addition there are many reading scheme books which could be successfully used to revisit any words that need more reinforcement. A list is currently being prepared for this purpose. |
